In awarding the prize the Melbourne Business Awards judging committee considered each nominee's business achievements, market expansion, innovation, company leadership, commitment to quality, service and human resource management as well as export success.

GoldPeg were recipients of a Commendation at the 2003 Governor of Victoria Export Awards, at a ceremony at Government House in Melbourne, Australia in October 2003.
The awards celebrate the initiative and achievements of Victorian industries in building business and commercial success in the major markets of the world.
The Commendation was presented by Governor John Landy to GoldPeg's founder Bob Smith. It recognised Gold Peg International’s consistent export achievements in the ‘Small to Medium Manufacturer’ category.
